Candy (Woods) Pollard
Candy began dancing at the age of 4, and pursued her studies in dance education and performance under the direction of Berenice Dickson. She studied all dance styles, but as a young student and teenager she focused on competitive Highland dancing. Along with her parents, and Berenice her instructor, she travelled extensively throughout North America, competing and winning at many prestigious Highland Games. Candy was also a very active member of The Glen Productions Community Theatre Company, dancing, singing and acting in over a dozen productions. She completed her first teacher training program through the Scottish Dance Teacher’s Association in 1977. Upon the retirement of her teacher and mentor in 1985, Candy taught dance throughout the community, before opening Studio C in 1991.
For the past 25 years, Studio C has provided quality dance education for competitive and recreational students alike. She has inspired and motivated literally thousands of students, and has continued to be involved in local theatre. Candy continues to study each summer with Dance Olympus and with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. She holds qualified membership Certification with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association Ontario Branch (C.D.T.A.). Studio C is the only dance studio in the Cornwall area to have certified instructors with the CDTA and to offer a graded dance education system through this nationally recognized organization. After more than 50 years in the dance world, her passion has not waned.
Alanna also began her dance training under the instruction of Ms. Berenice Dickson, and continued that training at Studio C Dance School. As a member of the Studio C Dance Team, she won the title of “Miss Elite Stars of Dance 1996”. Alanna began choreographing at age 12, and by 16 was teaching almost as much as she was dancing.
Alanna has completed her Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University and currently teaches Dance and English at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. She has completed both the Advanced Jazz and Tap Examinations with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association and also holds Full Membership status with that organization.
